Apresentação/Introdução COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory syndrome and has become a pandemic. Contact tracing was one of these strategies to reduce the spread of infectious disease with the timely identification of new cases arising. Also, when accompanied by robust testing, isolation, and case management is an important tactic to interrupt SARS-CoV-2 transmission chains and reduce mortality and morbidity.
Objetivos To describe the action taken in the tracking of contact persons of patients positive for COVID-19
Metodologia Ecological, descriptive study with secondary data analysis, for the period from July 7, 2021 to October 22, 2021. The testing procedure for COVID-19 was carried out on 1000 tests, received from the 20th Health Regional of Paraná. The criterion was to test the cases with or without symptoms who had contact with people positive for the disease between the 5th and 7th day after the last contact, or onset of symptoms, or positive result for the disease. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics
Resultados Out of 1.000 tests, 930 (93%) had negative results and 70 (7%) had positive ones. Of the negative cases, the largest group were ages 40 to 59 years old, female. Six patients (0.6%) were having symptoms 3 days before collection, and being asymptomatic on the collection day. Additional testing using RT-PCR was conducted on the 40-59 age group. As for the positive cases, 34.2% of these belonged to the age group ≥ 60 years, with a higher frequency of females (60%), of the total 9 (13%) had symptoms for more than 3 days, and these were mostly from females 40-59 age years old. 73 (29%) were males with an age range of 0 to 9 years. An additional 231 refusals were not included in the 1.000 samples
Conclusões/Considerações The data indicate that 7% of the monitored contacts became infected, and studies indicate that on average a single sick person can pass the Sars-CoV-2 virus to six other people, which reinforces the importance of maintaining the quarantine, when a positive case is identified. Other effective public health measures included the implementation of non-pharmacological measures, such as avoid convening in large crowds and face masks utilization
